A General Chemistry Study Tip - Setting Goals and Challenges

A General Chemistry Study Tip - Setting Goals and ChallengesWhen studying for the General Chemistry Exam, I always encourage students to set goals and challenges before they study. If you set yourself a goal or set a goal for yourself then it's easier to accomplish. This will motivate you to study harder and take your studies seriously. You also don't want to get caught up in a routine, so what's better, setting goals that you can complete or following a schedule? The main way I like to encourage my students to study for their examinations is to tell them they will never be done studying. I let them know that they will never be able to learn everything there is to know about Chemistry. Many students worry that if they finish all the questions then they will get an A. A lot of times this is true, but as long as you find out all the answers and study hard then I believe that you will come out of this with a C, B, or C+. Once you start to feel discouraged, you will stop studying. You have to realize that not all questions are going to be difficult. Some of them are going to be easy and some of them may even be easy. For example, at the end of the A-Level Chemistry Exam I was able to get A's out of all of my students. What I do is find out where their weaknesses are and I try to avoid these questions.Once you know where their weaknesses are, you can easily find their strengths and use this knowledge to solve the problem. Sometimes there is a solution, because there may be a simpler question. In this case you will just have to find out which one you need to answer.Another tip I use is to ask each student to try to solve their own chemistry homework instead of trying to find an answer to one you have given. Then once you give the solution to the student he/she can give you the solution. I feel it will save you time is important for you to be successful. By being able to find solutions on your own you will never be caught up in a routine. This really is a great tip for C hemistry, the more you work on your own your confidence will grow. Even if you are failing in a certain section at the moment, if you see that you can finish an exam in less than an hour then this will help you make a decision. Then I encourage them to continue.Don't wait until your work is completely done to start working on problems. Instead get started now, with a little help from your Chemistry tutor and you'll find you'll pass the General Chemistry Exam more easily. The more you do well the more confident you will be, and this will help you when you finally sit the exam.
